The undergraduate programme in Microbiology is the first level of college or university degree in the country as in several other parts of the world. After obtaining this degree, a microbiologist may enter into the job market or opt for undertaking further higher studies in the subject. Eligibility for Admission: Candidate for admission to the first year of B.Sc. Degree Course in Microbiology shall be required to have passed the Higher Secondary Examination with Biology or Botany or Zoology.

The postgraduate degree in Microbiology is to make students knowledgeable about the various advanced concepts in a wide ranging context which involve the use of knowledge and skills of Microbiology. M. Phil., Microbiology provides the skills to take up research based jobs. The course provides strong knowledge of research that helps the students in there Ph. D.

Eligibility criteria for Admission to the M.Phil. Programme as per Revised M.Phil. Regulations 2018 based on University Grants Commission Regulations, 2016 approved by the Senate meeting held on 27th October 2018 by University of Madras.

D., Microbiology is huge because of the involvement of microbiology in various fields such as Pharmacy, Medicine, clinical research, agriculture, dairy industry, water industry, nanotechnology & chemical technology. The successful completion of the degree opens wide research opportunities abound in areas such as urban disease control, formulation research, clinical research, analytical development, new drug development and teaching jobs.
